2005 Volleyball Players of the Week

November 7, 2005
Cait Cleaver, Colby
(Senior, Outside Hitter - Kennett Square, Pa.)
Cleaver helped the Mules win their first NESCAC Volleyball title with 15 kills and 25 digs in a 3-0 victory over Tufts on Sunday. She also had 10 kills, 16 digs and three blocks in a 3-0 semifinal win against Williams on Saturday. Cleaver started the week with 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks in a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Wesleyan. Cleaver has 1,651 kills and 1,585 digs in her career heading into this week's NCAA Tournament action.

Annie Denison, Williams
(Senior, Middle Blocker - Portland, Ore.)
Denison had an outstanding week for the Ephs, posting 86 kills in 15 games for Williams (5.7 kills/game) to help her squad to a 3-0 victory over Middlebury and a 3-1 win over Bowdoin. She also added 15 blocks, 25 digs, 5 service aces, and hit .339 for the week. Denison had 19 kills in a victory over Bates, and went over the 2,000 kill mark for her career in that match. She also had 30 kills, 9 digs and 4 blocks in a narrow loss to Colby.

Kaitlin Adams, Colby
(Senior, Middle Blocker - Athol, Mass.)
Adams made the All-Tournament team at the Hall of Fame Tournament over the weekend, posting a .393 hitting percentage in a 4-1 week for the Mules. Through 18 games, Adams had 55 kills and 13 service aces, along with 16 blocks. Against Bates, Adams had 10 kills, eight aces and four blocks, while against Amherst she posted 15 kills, three aces and two blocks. Adams currently leads Colby in hitting percentage (.386) and blocks (97).

Erika Heineken, Trinity
(Sophomore, Outside Hitter - Larkspur, Calif.)
Heineken propelled Trinity to wins over Connecticut College, 3-0, and Wesleyan, 3-1, with 27 kills, two aces, and 23 digs in the two matches. She had a team-high 16 kills and 12 digs in the Bantam's 3-1 victory over the Cardinals, and added in 11 kills and a team-high 11 digs in a 3-0 blanking of Connecticut College.

Jenny Lawrence, Colby
(Freshman, Setter - Lafayette, Calif.)
Lawrence averaged 34.8 assists and 12.0 defensive digs per match in a 4-0 week for the Mules against NESCAC opponents. Lawrence had nine aces, 37 assists, and eight digs in a 3-1 victory against Wesleyan. She also finished with 47 assists and 20 digs in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Trinity. She also broke a school record for service aces in a four-game match.

Lisa Drennan, Wesleyan
(Freshman, Outside Hitter - Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Drennan led her squad to the Wesleyan Invitational title with victories over Amherst, Trinity, and Wheaton, garnering All-Tournament Team honors along the way. It was the third time this season that Drennan has received all-tournament honors. She averaged 4.5 kills per game with a .361 hitting efficiency while adding in 30 digs and 16 blocks over 11 games.

Kaitlin O'Reilly, Tufts
(Freshman, Setter - Manhattan Beach, Calif.)
O'Reilly was named to the MIT Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Jumbos to the Gold Bracket title (fifth place) and a 3-1 showing at the 14-team tournament over the weekend. In 19 games overall for the week (4-1 overall), O'Reilly averaged 11.37 assists, adding in 11 kills, four aces, and 39 digs (2.05/game). She had 41 assists, four kills, and 10 digs in a three-game victory over Williams to win the Gold Bracket. Against Muhlenberg on Friday, O'Reilly had 53 assists through four games.

Caitlin Tomaska, Connecticut College
(Freshman, Outside Hitter - Torrey Pines, Calif.)
Rookie Caitlin Tomaska helped the Camels to a 2-1 weekend in NESCAC play, including a solid performance in helping her squad overcome a two-game deficit to nationally-ranked Williams. In the match against the Ephs, Tomaska finished with 19 kills and four errors on 43 attempts, adding 17 digs and two aces. On the weekend, Tomaska amassed 53 kills with just 12 errors on 116 attempts, registering a .353 hitting percentage and an average of 3.8 kills per game.

Cleaver proved to be a statistical juggernaut for the Mules in a 4-0 weekend, earning All-Tournament honors along the way at the Colby Invitational. She accumulated 46 kills and 24 digs through four appearances, including posting 10 kills, seven digs, and four blocks against Bowdoin. With her performance over the weekend, Cleaver went over 1,200 kills for her career and currently stands at 1,211.
