Colby Advances to NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship for First Time

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Colby will make its first appearance in the NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship game after a 10-8 win over Amherst on Kohn Field in Middlebury. The Mules will take on the host school, a 15-5 winner over Williams, in the title game at noon on Sunday.

With the game tied at two, the team's exchanged the next five goals, leaving Amherst with a 5-4 lead at the half. Three of the Jeffs first half goals were scored on the free position, as they out shot Colby 17-7.

Colby came back strong in the second half, scoring three of the first four goals to take a 7-6 lead on a goal by Amy Campbell at the 17:18 mark. Amherst tied the game at seven with 16:50 remaining on a tally from Amy Craig.

Colby then went on a decisive 3-0 run to take a 10-7 lead with 6:57 left to play. Amy Craig mustered up a goal at the 6:14 mark for Amherst, but that would be the game's final tally as Colby held on for the victory.

Kate Sheridan led Colby with three goals, while Libba Cox and Lauren Strazzula added two apiece. Catharine O'Brien made nine saves in goal to earn the win.

Craig paced Amherst with four goals, while Maddie Hoeg added three. Lina McEvoy made seven saves in goal on the afternoon.
