GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, Md.) had four goals and one assist to lead the Gettysburg College Bullets to a 13-8 win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this afternoon at Clark Field. Trinity closes its season with a 12-5 record, while the Bullets improve to 16-3 and advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals tomorrow against the winner of this afternoon's game at Gettysburg featuring Hamilton and Montclair State.

The Bantams were making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1998 and advanced to second round with a 19-3 win over Endicott on Wednesday.

Gettysburg held a 4-3 advantage with 11:39 left in the first half and scored eight unanswered goals to take a 12-3 lead with 15:07 remaining in the game.  Sophomore midfielder Katie Ceglarski (Darien, Conn.) ignited the run with a goal from freshman attcker Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J.) with 4:59 left before the break and Bullet senior attacker Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, Md.) totaled all three of her goals and assist during the pivotal run.

"Gettysburg took advantage of some breakdowns in our zone defense to put the together a string of goals," stated Trinity interim head coach Kate Perine (1st Season).  "We forced them into some dropped balls, but they were more successful at picking it up.  On offense, we forced the action and took some shots too quickly."

Trinity sophomore midfielder Carrie Disa (Wilbraham, Mass.) stopped the bleeding with the second of her team-high three goals on a free position with 12:41 left in the contest.  Disa's goal stopped a 28:58 Trinity scoring drought, but the Bantams tacked on three more scores over the next 5:50 to pull within five at 12-7 with 4:12 left to play.  Disa found the net again with a blast from the right side at the 7:02 mark of the second half, followed 11 seconds later by a goal off the ensuing draw by senior co-captain defender Gabriele Geier (Bethesda, Md.).  Disa scored her third goal from sophomore middie Alison Holmes (Gates Mills, Ohio), but Betts tallied her game-high fourth goal with 2:14 on the clock to swing the momentum back to Gettysburg.  Trinity freshman attacker Jenn Calver (Barnard, Vt.) scored on a one-on-one against the Gettysburg goalie off the draw eight seconds later, but the Bullet offense possesses the ball for the majority of the final two minutes.

In the game's early minutes, Gettysburg junior attacker Jamie Giffuni (St. James, N.Y.) scored on a wrap-around from the behind the goal on the right side but Trinity answered on a lefty rocket by Disa from 10 yards away at the 22:24 mark.  The Bullets scored twice over the next six minutes before Bantam freshman midfielder Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.) scored on a free position shot with 15:06 left before intermission.  Betts scored for Gettysburg shortly after and senior midfielder Abi Arnold (Hanover, N.H.) converted on another Trinity free position to make the score, 4-3, with 11:39 remaining in the first half.

Smith stopped nine shots in the first half and five in the second, while adding five ground balls and three caused turnovers at the Trinity goalie position.  Freshman Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md.) made 10 saves for Gettysburg, including several stops during the 8-0 Bullet run in the middle of the game.  The Bullet defense focused its attention on Trinity junior All-NESCAC attacker C.J. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.), holding the Bantam leading scorer without a shot in the game.  Yanofsky contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers to her team's efforts.  Ceglarski finished with a goal and three assists for Gettysburg, while junior attacker Krissy Browning (Baldwin, Md.) added two goals and one assist, and senior midfielder Katie Hagan (Media, Pa.) had one goal and two assists.

"This team has put Trinity women's lacrosse back on the map and for this fact these women should be very proud," said Perine.  "I was also very happy with our play over the last seven minutes.  This experience should give us confidence and momentum going into next season."
