Trinity Moves Past Endicott in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior co-captain attacker Lauren Malinowski (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior attacker C.J. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.) combined to total 13 points on six goals and seven assists, leading the Trinity College Bantams to a 19-3 win over the visiting Endicott College Gulls in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this afternoon at Sheppard Field. 

Trinity improves to 12-5 and advances to the NCAA Second Round at Gettysburg College on Sat., May 12.  The win is the first in the NCAA Tournament for the Bantams since 1998 and the first post-season victory in the career of first-year Head Coach Kate Perine (Middlebury, Vt.).

Trinity scored 41 seconds into the game, three times in the first 1:25, and seven times in the opening 11:45 of the game en route to the one-sided victory.  Bantam freshman attacker Jenn Calver (Barnard, Vt.) scored from classmate Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, Md.) at the 29:19 mark of the first half to begin the 7-0 run, and Malinowski scored two of Trinity's first seven goals.  Sophomore Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) broke the Gull scoring drought with an unassisted goal with 17 minutes left in the half, but the Bantams scored the next five goals to take a 12-1 lead with 5:58 left before intermission.  Yanofsky scored once and assisted on four Bantam goals in the final 16:48 of the first half.

Trinity took a 14-2 lead into the break and added three straight goals early in the second half for a 17-2 advantage with 18:08 to go in the game.  Gunter netted her second goal of the game for the Gulls with 11:51 on the clock, while Trinity junior attacker Kate Koppelman (Baltimore, Md.) scored one goal and assisted on a second down the stretch to account for the final tally of 19-3.

Remes finished with three goals and one assist for Trinity, while junior midfielder Emily Allen (Penfield, N.Y.) added three goals, and sophomore middie Alison Holmes (Gates Mills, Ohio) scored twice.  Trinity junior goalie Michelle Smith (Wayland, Mass.) and Endicott senior goalie Erin Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) each made 10 saves.  Trinity outshot the Gulls, 34-12, in the first half and, 44-17, for the game.
