SALISBURY, Md. - The Amherst College women's lacrosse team concluded its season with an 11-9 NCAA Tournament second-round loss to Washington & Lee University at Salisbury University on Saturday. Washington & Lee improved to 15-3 and advanced to face Salisbury, who defeated Eastern Connecticut State University 19-5 in the day's other game, while Amherst fell to 12-4.

Washington & Lee jumped on top early, reeling off the first four scores for a 4-0 edge just over 12 minutes into play. Amherst battled back, netting four of the next five goals and trailing by just one goal, 5-4, at the half.

Junior Amanda Strickler gave the Generals a two-goal edge 1:26 into the second frame, but Amherst senior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) retaliated just 17 seconds later with her second unassisted tally of the game. Amherst junior Scotty Hanley (Baltimore, MD) then used a feed from sophomore Dana Kuper (Denver, CO) to knot the count for the first time since the opening draw at the 27:40-mark. Washington & Lee regained the lead on a goal from sophomore Mallory Lobisser, and junior Rachel Wallick pushed the lead back to two, 9-7 with 23:42 left in regulation. The two squads traded goals over the next seven minutes, but Amherst notched a pair of scores to deadlock the count, 9-9, with just over 10 minutes to play. Rookie Maddie Hoeg (Shoreham, NY) pulled the Jeffs within one with a free-position score, and classmate Gretchen DeLuke (Lewiston, NY) found Harmeling for the game-tying goal. However, that would be the last of Amherst's offense, and Washington & Lee would tack on two more scores down the stretch to seal the win.

Harmeling led all scorers with four goals, while Hanley and Hoeg added a pair of scores each. Sophomore Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) also found the net, and Kuper and DeLuke finished with an assist apiece. Senior goalie Liv D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) grabbed eight saves in defeat.

Lobisser paced the Generals with a trio of scores, while Strickler chipped in two goals and an assist, Wallick posted a pair of tallies and sophomore Kelly Evans and junior Louisa Feve each had a goal and an assist. Rookie netminder Sarah Tilbor collected 14 saves and five ground balls.
