BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Sidney J. Watson Arena, dedicated January 18, 2009, has become the first newly constructed ice arena in the United States to earn coveted LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The USGBC certified the ice arena's LEED status July 16, 2009. LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based rating system for high-performance sustainable buildings that provides a measurable standard for building owners and occupants.
April 13, 2009 Former Trinity Coach Dunham Receives Parker-York Award from New Engalnd Hockey Writers
HARTFORD, Conn. Longtime Trinity College head mens ice hockey coach John Dunham (West Hartford, Conn.), who retired following the 2006-07 season, was honored as the 2009 Parker-York Award by the New England Hockey Writers for his lifelong contribution to New England Hockey. Dunham received the award at the annual awards banquet held on Monday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.
March 20, 2009 Three NESCAC Skaters Named AHCA Men's All-America
GLOUCESTER, Mass. - Three NESCAC skaters earned a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Men's All-America teams. Amherst teammates Jeff Landers (Hanover, Mass.) and Cole Anderson (Eckville, Alberta) were named to the East First Team, while Middlebury's Jamie McKenna (Lake Placid, N.Y.) found a spot on the East Second Team.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. - Senior defenseman Jeff Landers of Amherst College has been chosen by the nation's coaches as the 2009 winner of the Sid Watson Award Award, symbolic of the nation's best Division III men's hockey player. The 6-0, 205-pound native of Hanover, Mass., helped the Lord Jeffs to a 22-5-1 record, best in school history, and the NESCAC championship. The Amherst season ended last weekend with a 2-1 overtime loss to Hobart College in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
BOSTON, Mass. Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Steve Grogan announced today that senior defenseman Jeff Landers (Hanover, Mass.) of Amherst College is the winner of the ninth annual Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes New Englands best American-born hockey player at the Division II-III level. It is the fourth year in a row and seventh time in the award's history that a NESCAC skater has earned the honor.
