KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Friday the 2009 State Farm Coaches’ Division III All-America teams. Middlebury senior guard Ben Rudin (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was named to the Second Team, the first player in program history to earn All-America honors.

In addition to being named All-America, Rudin had previously been selected as a First Team All-Northeast District by the NABC. Earlier this winter, Rudin was named the NESCAC Player of the Year while earning a spot on the league’s First Team. The point guard led the Panthers to their most successful season in school history, winning the 2009 NESCAC Men's Basketball Championship with a school-best record of 24-4. The Panthers also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.

Rudin had an impressive senior campaign for the Panthers. The senior point guard averaged 11.7 points/game in early January, coming on strong to end the year averaging 17.0 points/contest. He scored 21.2 points/game in NESCAC games, including a scoring average of 25.8 over the final eight games of the season.

The 2006 NESCAC Rookie of the Year became the 15th player in school history to surpass the 1,000 point mark earlier this season, ending his career sixth on the school’s all-time list with 1,221 points. He also became the school’s all-time leader in assists on January 24th, owning 460 career helpers with over 100 each season as a Panther. Rudin ended the year third in the NESCAC in scoring (17.0 ppg), while leading the league with 4.61 assists/game and ranking fifth with 1.46 thefts/game. Rudin’s 477 points in ’08-’09 were third most in a single-season in school history, while his 155 career steals place him second on the school’s all-time list.
